# 50 things

Here are some of my favorites from [Cate's](https://usefulfictions.substack.com/) [50 things](https://usefulfictions.substack.com/p/50-things-i-know) she learned that resonate with me. It's something I'll comeback to. 

*   Have fewer, if unsure how to have better opinions.
    
*   The 12-step program works, and it’s [steps 4 and 8](https://www.aa.org/the-twelve-steps) (Moral Inventory & make an amends)
    
*   Double your estimate to reduce errors due to the [Planning Fallacy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planning_fallacy)
    
*   Do first the thing you want to avoid to reduce psychic burden.
    
*   Childhood scars do exist. Don't be a victim of your past.
    
*   10 years ago you looked better. Consider the same today. Be kinder to yourself
    
*   More of, never satisfies.
    
*   `burn out = (increasing) effort * time`
    
*   `execution > ideas`
    
*   incongruent motivations of people still result in success.
    
*   Saying 'I'm wrong' or 'I don't know' indicates social strength.
    
*   Your calling will cross your path several times.
    
*   Revenge is handled by your instigator with time. So let them.
    
*   Ask first if they want to vent or solve.
    
*   Hire for people that give a shit.
    
*   Know when to quit.
    
*   Be of service to feel better.
    
*   Save yourself to save the world.
    
*   Avoid totalizing ideologies.
    
*   Being fully honest is liberating choice.

*   Suffering is what gives people texture.
    
*   Forgiveness is a thing you do for yourself, not the other person. When you can't, just accept this and move on.
    
*   Being too kind or too chill is not a thing.
    
*   Pay special attention to the thoughts that gnaw at you.
