# get people to listen

I listened to a [Jay Shetty's Podcast](https://www.jayshetty.me/podcast) [episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfVcnrNcBz4) on principles to get people to _actually_ listen to you rather than tune you out.

1. Keep your emotions in check [get calm before you speak, not during]

2. Clarity beats passion [a clear message lands harder than an emotional one]

3. State facts with safety [lower the perceived threat for people to actually hear you]

4. More questions, fewer statements*[curiosity opens doors that declarations close]

5. Tone and body language are what's actually heard [delivery is paramount, intent is secondary]

6. Close the loop [alignment or a clear next direction]

Simple list, but not easy to execute under pressure. I'll be trying these out.

Happy hackin'
